What would Meryl do?
Some weeks, it feels like I simply can't get "back on track" (and I'm NOT talking about jogging). I just came across this quote from Meryl Streep: "Keep going. Start by starting."
I'll try to make a mantra of it, and see what happens...

Here's another quote from Nietzsche... about walking
Works for me!
I don't know if truly great thoughts were conceived out of my walks but I know that going out for a walk to clear my head has prevented not so great thoughts from being born!

Friendship quote: Friedrich Nietzsche
My house is a mess... but you're invited anyway
I like the idea that my friends choose to overlook my downfalls (dust bunnies and all) to focus on the good things I make happen in my house: dinner invitation, good food, interesting wine, great conversation.
Gotta go. Got to work a bit before I get to making mushroom risotto for 10 people tonight. (I might even be able to squeeze in 15 minutes to tidy up the rooms. But the dust bunnies will have to wait. Again.)

Heidi Wilk talks about a change of plans
In the Globe this morning, a touching essay by Heidi Wilk in the Facts & Arguments section.
When her husband, in his early thirties, was diagnosed with a brain tumour, she had to change her priorities to enjoy what was left of a ride she thought would be much longer.

Some pearls of wisdom she wrote:
"My relationships are now my prized possessions."
"Happiness is going for a walk with a friend, chatting over coffee, having a shoulder to cry on. No amount of material possession can provide that kind of comfort."

Friendship quote: Elbert Hubbard
A little friendship goes a long way!
I dedicated my girlfriends' guides to my mothers' group with this quote from Elbert Hubbard.
We started meeting 20 years ago when the City called us to attend information sessions for new mothers and have met regularly ever since.
Over time, we've discovered that it was useless for us to plan a cultural outing (museum, show, movie) if we hadn't had time to chat and catch up before. (Seriously! We once quit an opera show at intermission to have a beer in a nearby patio.)

Lisa Rochon: about friendship and cities
I've always read Lisa Rochon's articles on architecture in the Globe and Mail with pleasure. She never loose sight of how it serves the urban dwellers.
In her blog Chasing Home, she gets more poetic and intimate. And it's still about us, in relation with our environment. Her latest is beautiful. She reminds us of a quote from Aristotle:
"Friendship binds cities".
"Sidewalks are long, linear stages for conversation" declares Lisa Rochon.
As the author of Toronto Urban Strolls... for girlfriends, I couldn't agree more!
